Our experience

I served as a KALEO college leader in 2017, volunteered as a speaker in 2018, and returned as a leader again in 2019. More than other traditional camps that I’ve worked or attended, the KALEO leaders and I were able to live in community with the participants - navigating the ins and outs of each immersion as a family. KALEO finds a way to balance hard work, theological growth, service, and fun in a Christ-centered way. It was such a privilege to mentor the students through some of the most strenuous and fruitful times physically, mentally, and spiritually. I am still so proud of everyone I met during this program. This is truly a transformative experience for everyone involved, and I personally believe that there is no better way to spend your summer.

My journey with KALEO started with my cousin encouraging me to join her on a month-long mission trip/discipleship journey with a college in a small Texas town. I had wanted to go on a mission trip, so I thought it would be a good idea. I filled out the application, with no expectations of how this program would radically change my life and relationship with God. As we were sharing our testimonies, I realized I hadn’t really walked with God or seen him move in my life even though I claimed to be a Christian. I knew I was too consumed with things like having perfect grades, being liked by everyone, getting lead roles, etc. As we were worshipping, I just wept. One of the leaders came and prayed over me as I chose to surrender everything to God. Ever since that moment, my life has been transformed. I realized God is worth everything. I am so thankful for the KALEO program, because God used my time there to re-center my life on Christ. I made so many memories and realized how lost I was. God is so gracious and kind, and I am so thankful for how he used KALEO in my testimony and transformed me.

KALEO helped form me into the leader I am today. I participated in KALEO 2017 when I was a Junior in high school. Through this experience I grew closer to God and discovered my identity in Christ. I also found my place at Wayland Baptist University during the campus immersion. I can honestly say that I would not be where I am today without the influence of KALEO.
